Black Lamb Press is an independent publisher based in rural Newfoundland & Labrador, on the Burin Peninsula.
We prefer short stories that are heavy on plot. Character development is fine too, but something must happen in the stories we publish! It can't just be endless vapourings of dialogue! We do not care for the avant garde or experimental writing, nor are we in favour of formulaic approaches. We despise genre fiction. We will not publish stories that smell of an outline, use three act structure, the hero's journey, 'tropes,' or other stale effects.
We prefer poetry written in traditional metre. We do not and will not publish 'free verse.' If a writer calling himself a poet does not use metre, end rhyme, satisfying metrical substitutions, or meaningful enjambments in his writing he is trying to usurp the title of poet without having done the work.
